Partners

David Roberts - MRCVS

David Roberts - MRCVSDavid graduated from Bristol in 1980 and joined the practice in 1982, becoming a Partner in 1984. He was raised in Morriston, the son of a well-respected Baptist minister, and attended Bishop Gore School where he was Head Boy. His love of animals developed at an early age and he started seeing practice at the Walter Road surgery whilst he was still at school. He is currently a member of the British Small Animal Veterinary Association (BSAVA) and the British Veterinary Association (BVA). He has previously been President, Secretary and Public Relations Officer of the South Wales BVA, but gave this up to spend more time with his wife and daughters. He now works mostly at the main surgery in Walter Road, where he oversees the day-to-day running of the practice in addition to his busy schedule of consultations and surgery! He now works predominantly as a small animal practitioner, and has an interest in surgery and ultrasonography. When not in work he is a keen ornithologist and amateur photographer, and spends many hours walking around Gower with his dogs Peggy and Bertie. He also has 7 cats, 2 donkeys, guinea pigs and rabbits!

John Jones - MRCVS

John Jones - MRCVSJohn graduated from the Royal Veterinary College of London in 1984. He joined the practice as a Partner 22 years ago. His father had also been a Partner in the practice until his retirement in 1989. John is based primarily at our Whitegates branch although he continues to do a substantial amount of the farm animal and equine work for the practice. John lives on a small-holding with his wife and young family, where they keep horses and a Border Collie. In his spare time John is a keen golfer and also plays cricket and other sports.

Ifan Lloyd - MRCVS

Ifan Lloyd - MRCVSIfan graduated in 1988 from Cambridge and joined the practice as a Partner in 1995. His main professional interest lies in large animal and farm work. He is an active member of the South Wales branch of the British Veterinary Association (BVA) and has been a past secretary and president of the association. He is currently their Public Relations Officer. He is also a member of the British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) and the British Cattle Veterinary Association (BCVA). In his spare time Ifan is kept busy by his young family and is also a school Governor. He also keeps a small flock of Ryeland sheep, some of which he has shown at The Royal Welsh Show and also enjoys long-distance running to keep fit and for competition.

Administrative Staff

Nicola Gore VN - Practice manager

Nicola Gore VN - Practice managerNicola started work nursing at the practice in 1996 and qualified as a VN in 1998. She has City and Guilds Certificates in Small Animal Nutrition and Nursing Exotic Species and is also a Pet Insurance Advisor. In 2004 she moved over to the administrative side of the practice and in 2005 gained a Certificate in Veterinary Business Studies. She currently has two dogs (an orphan and a 3-legged stray!), a cat and 3 Geckos. Outside work she enjoys walking, yoga, reading, music and travel.

Karen Roberts - Accounts clerkKaren Roberts - Accounts clerk

Karen started at the Practice in August 2006. She is responsible for invoicing and accounting within the practice and has held the AAT Technician qualification since 2002. In her spare time she enjoys films, reading and days out with her family.

Vets

David Steele - MRCVS

David Steele - MRCVSDavid qualified from Glasgow in 2002, although he originally hails from Northern Ireland. He started work at the practice straight after graduating and has been with us ever since! David is usually found at the Walter Road surgery and has a keen interest in small animal orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery. He is currently studying for a General Practitioners Certificate in Small Animal Surgery. When not in work David likes mountain biking, rock climbing, kayaking, playing squash and watching ‘ER’.

Nick Colwell - MRCVS

Nick Colwell - MRCVSNick graduated from Liverpool in 1988. He joined the practice in 2003 and works mostly at our branches in Neath and Morriston. He is a solely small animal practitioner and is interested in birds and general soft tissue surgery.

Outside work he enjoys cycling, skiing and walking with his family. He is also currently learning Welsh and restoring a boat.

Alyson Huxtable - MRCVS

Alyson Huxtable - MRCVSAlyson graduated in 1989 and has worked part-time at St.James since October 2002. She is based mainly at the Morriston branch but also works at Walter Road. Alyson is a member of the BSAVA and has a keen interest in ophthalmology.

Outside work she spends most of her time with her young family, but also enjoys dog walking and learning Welsh.

Graham Walker - MRCVS

Nick Colwell - MRCVSGraham graduated from Bristol as a Zoologist in 1994, then went on to qualify as a vet from London in 1999. Graham worked for two years in large animal practice, then two years in mixed practice before taking a year out to travel around Australia and New Zealand. Upon his return he worked for a veterinary emergency service, where he managed to get a tiny role in the TV series on BBC2!

His strongest areas of interest are critical care, dermatology and soft tissue surgery.

Originally from Tonna, Graham now lives in Penllergaer and when he is not working, he enjoys rugby, squash and movies.

Jamie Parr - MRCVSJamie Parr - MRCVS

Jamie qualified in 2002 and joined the practice in March 2005.

He is most often found at our Whitegates surgery or out on calls. Jamie does quite a lot of large animal work in the practice and this is his main area of professional interest. During his time off work he enjoys climbing, motorbikes and horse riding.

Gareth Field - MRCVS

Gareth Field - MRCVSGareth qualified from Bristol in 2005 and started work at the practice in the August of that year. He works mainly at the Walter Road and Whitegates surgeries. Gareth enjoys all aspects of small animal practice, as well as equine and farm work. He is also keen to develop his interest in exotic animal medicine.

In his spare time he likes skiing, rugby, surfing and occasionally horse riding. He also spends a lot of time walking his dog ‘Scrumpy’ around Gower and Swansea.

Geraint Jones - MRCVS

Geraint Jones - MRCVSGeraint graduated from Bristol in 2005 and joined the practice soon afterwards. He was no stranger to St.James as he had spent a considerable amount of time here seeing practice during his time as a Vet student. He works at the Walter Road, Neath and Morriston surgeries, as well as doing some large animal work. He is a member of the British Veterinary Association (BVA) and the British Small Animal Veterinary Association (BSAVA). His personal interests are mainly sporting, particularly rugby, although he spends more time watching than playing these days! He also enjoys outdoor pursuits, surfing, diving, travel and trips to the gym.

Kate May - MRCVSKate May - MRCVS

Kate graduated from the University of Pretoria in South Africa in 2003. After moving to the UK, she started work at St.James in February 2006.

Her personal interests include hiking, hockey, adventure racing, yoga, horse riding, cycling, reading and bird watching.

Nurses

Sharon Morris VN - Head Nurse

Sharon Morris VN - Head NurseSharon has worked at the practice since 1993 and has been Head Nurse since 1996. She qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 1999. She is a qualified Pet Health Counsellor and is interested in diabetic clinics, medical nursing, fluid therapy and orthopaedic nursing. Her least favourite job is doing the nursing staff rota! Outside work she likes cooking, gardening, geology, home improvements and the theatre and enjoys spending time with her husband Ceri and children, Ryan and Bethany.

Rebecca Davies VN - Veterinary NurseRebecca Davies VN - Veterinary Nurse

Rebecca qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 1996 and joined the practice in May 2004. She is interested in nutrition, complementary therapies, nurse clinics and Schedule 3 nursing. She also works part-time as a dog groomer. Her other interests include aerobics, Reiki, travelling and spending time with her son Benjamin.

Clare Oglesby VN - Veterinary NurseClare Oglesby VN - Veterinary Nurse

Clare qualified as a VN in 1999 and has worked at our Neath surgery since it opened in October 2004. Her professional interests include pet nutrition, dentistry and nursing of exotic species. She is a qualified Nutritional Advisor and Pet Insurance Advisor. To relax, Clare enjoys the cinema, eating out, travel, home improvements, playing the piano and reading.

Ruth Morris - Student Veterinary NurseRuth Morris VN - Veterinary Nurse

Ruth joined the practice as an auxiliary nurse in September 2001 and qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in March 2006. She is also a qualified Pet Health Counsellor, is interested in animal behaviour and also enjoys reading books and watching films.

Mark Morgan - Student Veterinary NurseMark Morgan - Student Veterinary Nurse

Mark joined the practice in February 2001 and enrolled as Student Veterinary Nurse in September 2004. He passed his NVQ Level 2 exams in July 2005 and hopes to qualify as a Veterinary Nurse in 2006. He has previously attained a City & Guilds Certificate in Pet Store Management and the Animal Nursing Auxiliary qualification. His hobbies include walking his dog ‘Louis’, music, reading, cinema, swimming, yoga and travelling.

Rebecca Gammon - Student Veterinary NurseRebecca Gammon - Student Veterinary Nurse

Rebecca started at St.James in December 2005. She is currently studying for her NVQ Veterinary Nursing qualification and enjoys all aspects of veterinary nursing. She also enjoys music, reading and socialising.

Jeanette Cooke - Auxiliary Nurse

Jeanette Cooken - Auxiliary NurseJeanette joined the practice in December 2002 and works mainly at our Whitegates surgery. Before moving to Swansea Jeanette worked in a boarding kennels and also achieved an NVQ level 3 qualification in Animal Care. She enjoys all aspects of her job but particularly enjoys assisting the vets with house calls and dealing with clients.

Her personal interests include horse riding, surfing, music and swimming and she is currently taking a course in horse care. She also keeps a variety of pets including dogs, ferrets, birds, fish and a lobster!

Reuben Allfree - Auxiliary NurseReuben Allfree - Student Veterinary Nurse

Reuben joined the practice in June 2004 after completing his National Diploma in Animal Care at Pencoed College. He has also done Level 2 + 3 dog grooming and is currently studying for his Veterinary Nursing qualification. He has an interest in exotic species and currently keeps two snakes at home. His other interests include surfing, scuba diving, cycling, general mountain hiking and exploring.

Shelley Jones - Auxiliary NurseShelley Jones - Auxiliary Nurse

Shelley started work at the practice in January 2006. After completing a BTEC in Performing Arts, she decided to pursue a career working with animals and is thoroughly enjoying all aspects of her new job! In her spare time Shelley still enjoys singing, dancing and socialising with friends.


Carly Williams - Auxiliary NurseCarly Williams - Auxiliary Nurse

Carly has been working at St.James since July 2006. She has a National Diploma in Animal Care and hopes to study for the RCVS Veterinary Nursing qualification. Her professional interests include orthopaedics and canine behaviour and psychology. Outside work her main hobby is cars, she is a member of the Car Club and has a special interest in Japanese cars and VWs.

Zoe Lehane - Auxiliary NurseZoe Lehane - Auxiliary Nurse

Zoe came to work at St.James’ in April 2006. She is a member of the Gower Agricultural Society and is a keen horsewoman in her spare time. She regularly competes in show jumping, cross country and carriage driving events. Zoe also enjoys shooting, car modification, motorbikes, music, dancing, singing and spending time with her family.
